OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) is an anxiety disorder categorized by uncontrolled and unwanted thoughts and compulsive behavior that severely interrupt your daily life. Even though people with OCD may recognize that their thoughts are irrational it can be difficult or impossible to resist them. People with OCD might constantly recall unpleasant images or thoughts in response to any number of triggers and often will do anything to avoid them. The compulsions are the brains response to try to make these obsessions go away. These responses may include washing your hands over and over or repeatedly checking to make sure the stove is off. OCD, like depression is frequently treated by antidepressants (SSRIs) which can increase the serotonin level in the brain, however this may take 6-12 weeks.
Researchers out of Stanford were among the first to do trials of ketamine in treating OCD and have found dramatic decreases in obsessive thoughts within 40 minute of ketamine treatment. Ketamine has long been shown to be rapidly effective in the treatment of OCD with relief that can begin within minutes to hours after the first infusion. Arizona Ketamine Specialists does not treat OCD with a basic ketamine IV infusion, instead patients are treated using the Advanced Personalized Ketamine Protocol. Developed by Dr. Vanlierop, the Advanced Personalized Ketamine Protocol combines cutting edge research and innovations in the fields of Anesthesiology, Pain Management, and Mental Health with focus on treating each patient as an individual.
